Fewer Printed Tax Forms to be Available

As electronic filing of income tax returns continues to increase, the accessibility of printed tax forms decreases.
While taxpayers have been able to obtain state tax forms via the internet for the last several years the government has traditionally made forms available at several locations within Chillicothe. This year, however, there are no sites that will receive state income tax returns for the general public.
“Eliminating pre-printed forms is one way the department can meet today’s taxpayer needs while reducing costs,” according to a state news release. “Pre-printed forms are expensive to produce, store and handle, and quickly become obsolete.”
The department will, however, provide income tax returns for the 2008 individual tax season to taxpayers who filed last year using a form printed by the department, the department stated. The Missouri Department of Revenue has already notified the county and library stating that the forms will not be available at those locations for the 2008 filing period. The library, though, has begun receiving some of the more common federal tax forms, according to library director Robin Westphal. Those will be made available after the first of the year.
